Surgery of Siatica

Surgery for siatica is the last and least favored treatment by the majority of those suffering from sciatic pain. In most cases it is possible to cure siatic pain through non surgical means. But in some severe cases surgery may be the only way out. There are different types of Surgeries for different cases.

Microdiscectomy
This kind of surgery is done to remove all the either the whole or parts of a herniated disc. This disc pushes the sciatic nerve which is the cause of the siatic pain. Micodiscectomy is a microscopic surgery performed through a very small incision. The inside is magnified through a microscope on which the surgeon performs the action with very small instrument

Endoscopic Discectomy
Another form of surgery for sciatica is the endoscopic disectomy. This is a relatively more painstaking procedure where a tube like structure is inserted in the body and the operation is performed within. Recovery from endoscopic surgery takes longer than microscopic.

Percutaneous Discectomy
This is another way to remove a herniated disc from the back bone. The herniated disc maybe completely removed in some cases whereas in some cases removing only a part of the disc may suffice.

Laser Discectomy
In this form of surgery the herniated disc is removed with the help of lasers. This is the most recent development in surgical treatments that are available for siatica.

Risk of the Surgery
Most people avoid going under the knife for sciatic pain relief. This is because post operation recovery can be a slow and painful process. Moreover there are many safer and less expensive alternative treatments to keep the pain under control and many people would rather live with a little pain than opt for surgery.
