Risk of Siatica |
There are different factors that affect the vulnerability of an
individual to develop siatica.
A)Aging Process
Amongst these factors is the phenomenon of aging that plays a
detrimental role in the development of siatica. A factor such as
aging cannot be controlled because with time the body starts to
degenerate. Changes in the spinal disk and spinal stenosis that come
with age are one of the major reasons for sciatica. Furthermore the
in vertebral disk starts to degenerate after the age of 30 which
makes the body vulnerable to sciatic pain. Other changes in the
arthritic structure also affect the siatic nerve. Your age becomes a
major factor once you cross 30.
B) Psychological Factor
Psychology also plays an important part in the development of
sciatica. High levels of stress can increase spine compression and
have an adverse affect on the mechanical loading of the lumbar
spine. This factor has been more prominent in the cases of women who
take on stress on themselves and generally people with introvert
personalities. The psychological condition actually affects the
physical constitution of the spinal cord which irritates the siatic
nerve resulting in pain.
C) Genetic factor
when sciatica occurs in people below the age of forty it is often
related to the genetic factor. In certain cases structural
abnormalities in the spinal cord may be inherited from one
generation to the next. A structural defect may cause unnatural
pressure upon the siatic nerve which results in it being pinched.
Moreover one may inherit weakened discs that may start to degenerate
at a relatively earlier age. In such unfortunate cases the child is
born with multiple problems that usually develop at a much later age
in normal human beings.
