Majority of the times siatic pain is caused by minor irritation to
the siatic nerve which can get better with time and physical
therapy. There are various non surgical solutions of sciatica such
as exercises and physical therapy.
A) Types of exercise and therapy
All passive treatments like Physical therapy and exercises are
configured to the particular individuals needs. In order to increase
the patient’s flexibility and to help build his strength the
physical therapists have to work one on one with every case. Doctors
may prescribe swimming and walking for back pain and in some cases
even yoga can be an effective alternative to medication. Usually a
therapist will train his patient to perform regular exercises that
he can continue at home educating him about proper posture and body
mechanics.
B) Time schedule of the exercise
Just like the type of exercise various according to the
individual patient’s requirement the exercise routines are also
subject to the sensitivity of the case. Certain chronic conditions
would require daily exercise at home and two to three trips to the
rehabilitation centre weekly. Whereas exercise such as walking and
partial sit ups may be prescribed daily. The time duration of these
exercises are progressive starting from short periods and low reps
at start.
C) Diet during the exercise and therapy
A patient is prescribed a complementary diet program during the
therapy sessions. An effective diet program helps to accelerate the
body’s recovery as it acts as a support for the effects of the
physical exercises to kick in
